Development of the GX FOUNDRY in late 2022 (with refinement in 2023) was deeply informed by the work of so many others across local, state, and especially federal government — work that was shared publicly and openly, and allowed us to learn from #govtech trailblazers working on user experience, design, agile methods, and and digital work of all kinds.
So we intend to pay it forward.
Let’s get started
Starting in early 2024 we will “work out loud” so other government nerds like us — the ones rethinking their digital services for an age of Government Experience (GX) — can see what we’re doing, learn from our successes and mistakes, and at the very least know they are not alone.
Our digital work is, naturally, focused inside our community: Franklin County, Ohio (home to Columbus). But we know we’re part of a large, multi-layered government ecosystem of more than 3,000 counties, hundreds of cities, 50 states, territory and tribal governments, and of course countless federal teams. We even love learning from our peers in the U.K., Canada, and Australia. Our plan: work locally, share globally.
We’re just starting this journey, but so far we think we will share…
the ideas behind our mission, methods, culture, and their sources
what we’re learning from government digital service teams everywhere
our agile-derived (and likely unique) Product Ownership ideas and practices
our team sizes, structures, and skills (and skills gaps)
who we serve and what they do
stories of our success
stories of our failures or mis-steps
profiles of “GX Champions” we meet along the way
what we’re reading and discussing
jobs we’re seeking to fill
New Substack, who dis?
We hope to bring many of our GX Foundry voices to this space, but to be honest, lots of folks can be a little shy about posting publicly! So the core authors will be our leadership team:
John Proffitt, Chief Digital Officer
Eric Nutt, GX Development Manager
Denise Roberts, GX Platforms Manager
Sarah Gray, GX Concourse Manager
To be honest, most of the posts will be from me (John). But I’ll bring the team along eventually. :-)
For now, feel free to subscribe for future updates, connect with us on LinkedIn if you like, and we hope you can enjoy a safe and relaxing end to 2023.
